The holidays are upon us, and one of our firm’s favorite traditions is supporting the North Texas Food Bank and the Houston Food Bank, both part of the Feeding America network. This year we’re adding a third deserving charity, the Mortgage Bankers Association’s Open Doors Foundation. I’ll share a bit about why we support each.

First, The North Texas Food Bank holds a special place in my heart. I served on the board of directors, including two terms as board chair, under my late friend, Jan Pruitt whose leadership guided the Food Bank for nearly two decades. Despite our robust economy, one out of six North Texans is food-insecure. The good story here is that the NTFB can provide three meals with a one-dollar donation, so even a modest donation makes an impact! To donate, click here.

The Houston Food Bank does important work supporting hungry neighbors – children, working parents, families and seniors – in southeast Texas.  In the Houston area, one out of five people who call the area home don’t have enough to eat, which is hard for many of us to comprehend. Like the North Texas Food Bank, their sister food bank in Houston can turn a one-dollar donation into three meals! Want to donate? Here’s the link.

Last is a wonderful initiative directly linked to our industry. The MBA’s Open Doors Foundation helps families make their mortgage payments when their children are being treated for a critical illness or injury. Your donation could help a family that’s facing the pressures of medical or prescription bills when their children are hospitalized or under a doctor’s care. Donations ensure mortgage and rental payment assistance to families with sick children, allowing parents to be by a child’s side during treatment.

If you are so inclined, I hope you’ll consider supporting one of these fine causes – or a charity that’s close to your heart. On behalf of our team at BM&G, I wish each of you a happy and memorable holiday season spent with those you love.
