Although BMG Client Relationship Specialist Rachelle Rowan says she’s no fitness expert, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone more dedicated to staying healthy. As the new year starts, we asked her to share tips that are the foundation for her wellness practice:
- Make goals – be reasonable, but don’t cheat or underachieve yourself. You can do it, it’s a matter of do you really want it.
- Know if you have limitations. There is a scale movement for your current fitness level, then build from there. Don’t get hurt is the goal so you can keep going.
- Track your BMI, blood pressure, and even daily mood. Weight doesn’t matter but change does. You can’t measure improvements if you’re not tracking. There are free apps to track food and find workouts.
- Sleep is very important for recovery. Get at least 7-8 hours each night.
- There is no quick fix for a healthy life – it’s an every-day event involving smart decisions. Eat and move for wellness. It helps to find hobbies that make you happy and surround yourself with a community of healthy people who encourage or hold you accountable.
- You can train anywhere – in a home garage, a hotel room when you’re on the road, or outdoors. You don’t need equipment or a gym membership. Just walking is excellent!
- You can’t out-exercise an unhealthy diet. Avoid processed foods, eat whole foods, and be mindful of what you’re putting in your body. Try to eat at the same time each day.
- Get yearly check-ups and talk to your medical team about your health and your efforts.
- Develop a daily meditation practice – start slowly with just a minute or two a day. There are many free apps and guided meditations you can find online.
- If you have a bad day, start over! Keep going and do it anyway.
Thank you for sharing these excellent tips, Rachelle! We wish each of you a healthy, happy 2024!
