Twenty-year BM&G veteran Shelly Rubey calls herself a “jack of all trades,” and she likes coming to work each day knowing it may be nothing like the day before. She’s worked with Tom Black since 1998, and one of her earlier memories stems back to 2000 when he sent her to one of the firm’s larger clients to help set up an onsite operation.
“Tom told me I’d be onsite with our client for about two weeks, but it turned out to be an eleven-year commitment, ultimately with 16 firm team members supporting the operation,” Shelly jokes. “However, I do have to say it was a terrific experience to represent the firm onsite at a fantastic mortgage lending operation. I had the best of both worlds.”
Today, she supports operations management to keep everything rolling from doc prep to day-to-day staffing, helps guide BM&G’s onboarding team for new clients, and manages the vendor audit process, as needed. She also helps cultivate the firm’s culture of hard work and customer focus, along with a bit of fun. In fact, Shelly’s known to be quite a party planner, whether it’s celebrating a holiday, just having fun or organizing the troops around a favorite firm charity initiative.
When she’s not working, Shelly’s life centers around her family, including her husband of more than 40 years, Bill, and son Braden, who owns gyms in Argyle and Denton. Shelly even manages to help Braden with his business in her off-hours.
“I feel privileged that I have my Black, Mann & Graham family,” Shelly says. “All you have to do is look at the longevity of our team. Many of us have been here for 15 or 20 years, and our partners have always taken great care of us. In turn, we take care of each other and our wonderful clients. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
