We recently caught up with BM&G partner Shawn Black, who manages the Flower Mound office and the firm’s title operations. Shawn has been with the firm since 2003 when he left his native Buffalo, New York and headed to North Texas with his wife Kathy and twin sons, Patrick and Liam.
When Shawn isn’t working, he and Kathy are busy supporting their sons who have just started their senior year of high school, where Patrick is on the hockey team and Liam is on the golf team. Shawn and Kathy have enjoyed being their biggest fans. Even with all the sports and school activities, the family enjoys spending time with family and friends. This summer they returned to Buffalo for a memorable family reunion. During last year’s Cotton Bowl, Shawn’s college roommates flew to Dallas for the game, and they’re pictured below with their families.
The Blacks are active in their church and community, where they volunteer their time. Shawn also provides pro bono legal services to Habitat for Humanity of Denton County, and serves on the Board of Directors for Pedi Place. As a Father’s Day gift, Kathy and the boys bought him a guitar, and he has started taking lessons. His dream is to one day tour with The Eagles. However, according to Shawn, “They haven’t returned any of my calls yet.”
Shawn credits BM&G’s success to the core values instilled by its founding partners, and the way that the team members embody those values. He says, “It’s no secret that the firm’s success is due to the way our team members treat our clients and each other. Nineteen years ago, Tom, Calvin and Greg provided us with a vision of what is important to our firm. Since that time, our employees have followed that vision. Our folks are truly committed to our clients and each other, and prove that on a daily basis.”
